This Leadership Program for Headteachers and Deputy Headteachers is something different. It recognises that the attitudes and values of Headteachers and Deputies are imperative to a school’s success. ‘Thinking Leadership’ is a program aimed to change the way in which Headteachers and Deputy Headteachers perceive their roles and responsibilities, with the end result having a lasting impact on the school and themselves.
Recently, thirty Headteachers and their Deputies in Kent signed up for a yearlong Leadership program. High quality inputs, shared working, school based activities and reflective conversations formed the basis of the course. During the six sessions planned over three terms, they covered six areas of school improvement:
Each session encompasses a real relevance to how schools run today. With a focus on school collaboration and autonomy, delegates were introduced to new models of working that really make a difference. ‘Values led learning’ gave a new approach to thinking about curriculum design and development.
New ways of monitoring and evaluating teaching were introduced, so teachers felt confident in evaluating standards and progress. In addition, research led practice and effective coaching models inspired teachers to employ more innovative teaching strategies to benefit pupils.
Through Nick Hind’s new thinking and passionate delivery, the program achieved national funding and so far, more than three hundred leaders have completed the program. The vast majority of delegates have reported that as a result of the course changing their thinking, Ofsted have judged their schools to be outstanding or good.
The course is constantly reviewed and updated. It can be run for Multi Academy Trusts, Federations, School Collaborations, or within geographical areas. The course has been run for Special School leaders as well as mainstream school leaders.
